Bowing out gracefully

After much thought and discussion, I'm pulling out of Autumn Leaves this year.

I haven't been able to keep up my cardio base via cross-training very well due to my limited ability to put solid weight on my foot. I'm getting better, but not fast enough. By the time I can start running again (about 2-3 weeks minimum left), I'm looking at a training time that is WAY TOO SHORT for my own good when it comes to a 50 miler (even one with a generous cutoff time.) So this leaves me with possibly doing the iUWR Marathon this year, but definitely the Seattle Ghost 50k and all races after that day.

I have to say, this is one way NOT to start out training for your first hundred miler.

Sorry to hear recoveries not moving as quickly as hoped, we'll miss you out at Autumn Leaves....

Have you seen any confirmation regarding iUWR or is it just assumed that it happens at the same place and same place every year? I'd like to run it if it's going to happen.

Yeah, iUWR just happens at the same place at the same time (same day as the NYC Marathon, same course as the Green River Marathon). However, Jason is really good at giving everyone a heads up at least one (usually two) months in advance to get a decent headcount so he can get volunteers, enough aid for the course, and figuring out how many t-shirts to order.

I'm sure we'll hear from him soon.

Cool thanks for the info...

Looks like you technically aren't bowing out of Autumn Leaves, according to an email from the RD, they're either going to cancel it or move it to sometime in mid-November (too bad I already have a nonrefundable hotel room booked for the wife & I)... damn it, that's 2 races in 2 months canceled for me...
